Online Information Technology Management Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management (BSITM) degree program is designed to help students work to develop a solid foundation in the function of information systems in management and the social and technical components of IT systems. The degree program’s EdActive™ Learning Approach was designed to promote readiness which allows for real-world application of the key information and skills learned in the program.

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management (BSITM) program is to prepare students for careers in a broad range of information-based fields, including careers in government, business, and not-for-profit organizations. Specifically, the program aims to provide students with a basic understanding of both technical issues in IT management (databases, networks, security, etc.) and managerial applications (financial and marketing information systems, systems design, etc.), along with a solid foundation in the function of information systems in management and the social and ethical dimensions of IT practice. Emphasis is placed on the integration of the social and technical components of IT systems and the need to jointly manage both aspects of information management.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the BSITM degree program graduates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the core concepts, principles, and theories in information technology management, including system design, development, implementation, and administration.
  • Apply project management principles or methodologies to coordinate team efforts to ensure the timely and successful completion of IT projects.
  • Interpret diverse information and data sources to inform problem-solving and decision-making processes in information technology management.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge, principles, and best practices from various IT disciplines to develop effective IT management solutions.
  • Apply ethical principles, guidelines, and professional codes of conduct relevant to information technology management, demonstrating integrity, responsibility, and accountability in decision-making and professional practice.

Your courses at Trident are industry relevant. As a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management (BSITM) student, you will explore a variety of classes, including Business Communication; Systems Analysis and Design; and Networking and Data Communications.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management (BSITM) requires 120 credits for degree completion. You will take 52 semester credits of program core coursework and 16 credits of concentration coursework. Students in the College of Information Systems are also required to meet Trident's general education requirements as specified in our course catalog. BSITM students will need to complete specific courses (or their equivalent) to satisfy general education competency areas.

Subject to additional college-or program-specific admissions requirements, the following standard admissions requirements apply:

  • A diploma from an accredited or state approved high school or its equivalent
  • Proof of English proficiency (international students only; see section on English Proficiency in the Trident University Catalog)

The following standard transfer policies apply:

  • Transfer students are required to provide official transcripts of all prior academic work without exception.
  • Prior academic work will be articulated during the admission process.
  • All courses, whether applied to a program or general elective in transfer will be posted to the student's permanent record.
  • Transfer credits will not be included in the calculation of overall GPA.
  • At the undergraduate level, students may transfer in credit no matter the date of completion. In cases where the content of a course is deemed outdated or no longer relevant/equivalent by the Trident, credits for that course will transfer as general elective credits only.
  • Students may formally appeal transfer decision to the Provost or designee. Appeals must be submitted in writing within five business days and must be accompanied by supporting documents or evidence.
